Spartan Plan is a sexy brand name.  But I’m not so sure I want to stick with it long term.

The problem I’ve noticed with branding (at least for what I do) is that it tends to pigeon hole the company.  A name like Spartan Plan screams, “fitness.” I’m all about helping people live healthier lives, but I offer way more than just fitness advice.  In fact, dating advice and career guidance are what brought me to the dance.  Sure, I worked as a professional athlete/entertainer, which gave me a strong background in diet and exercise, but I cut my teeth in the worlds of business and romance.

Of course, repackaging my business as plain old Crew Spence Strategies is not without its costs.  It’s decidedly less cool.  Plus, my offerings aren’t immediately apparent.  Marketing experts (like my wife) will correctly point out that it’ll harder to attract my target audience.  I respect and agree with their assessments, but I’m comfortable being patient with this project.  I want to remain true to myself.  I was never into the idea of building a brand, so much as I’m interested in offering value to my clients.  I don’t want to manage separate social media handles for my personal and business lives.  Hell, I don’t even like most social media (I recently deleted my Twitter account)!

I think this branding thing is a big part of why I stopped posting regularly here.  I wasn’t sure what the heck I was trying to say.  Should all of my content be fitness-oriented?  How do I write an article about romance advice on a site called Spartan Plan?  Will my audience know about my qualifications?  Will they know that I’ve mentored well over 1,000 men and women to satisfying romantic relationships and that I’ve coached thousands around the world to winning six-figure careers?  That isn’t ego.  These are facts.  I am an expert at helping people manifest abundant lives.  I’ve spent more than a decade honing these skills, and I do it from a holistic perspective.  It works better when all of the pieces are correctly aligned.

Unbranding has already opened up a significant wellspring of creativity.  I can’t wait to share my ideas with y’all.  I’m looking to do that in a variety of ways including more regular Youtube content, essays, and even a podcast!  I hope you’ll join me on this journey of self-discovery, and tell your friends (if you think they’d find value here).  Welcome to CrewSpence.com!
